My Blueberry Nights Directed by Kar Wai Wong
Absolutely by no means comparable to any of his past Films, which were magically beautiful, and always a visual experience, I still enjoyed My Blueberry Nights. It craved the gentle awkwardness his passed films have. Maybe it was first time actress Norah Jones or Clumsy Jude law or just that his poetic references didn’t communicate as well in the American tongue, I don’t know but Kar Wai failed to translate his vision fully in his first American film. I did though Love Natalie Portman, Chan Marshal and Rachel Weisz’s performances and the films music. I was able to catch WKW’s last week’s appearance and interview at the Soho/Apple store and was blown away by him. He was so inspiring and had this energy for beauty that was so palpable. When it was Q&A time I wanted so bad to ask about his sunglasses, but my unexpected shyness forbade it, feeling the Q was too trivial in comparison to all the much deeper cinematic inquiries. Whatever, its stuff I LIKE KNOWING OKAY!!! Well anyway, I love him (huge crush on the reals!!) and recommend MBNights, after the first 15 minutes it gets better…. I promise;-)
